Exposing Corruption & Systemic Issues
ICE has a website where they show they are going after the worst of the worst, but we keep seeing the opposite, this website is to expose corruption and systemic issues. We cannot have a conversation about immigration policy until we deal with corruption and system failures.
Accountability in Detention
We don’t get to know much about detention facilities. There is no accountability and transparency so we must take victim stories as truth until that transparency is provided.
Justice for the Victims
Shedding light on victim stories is important: they all deserve justice and America has failed them.
- In the beginning of writing this, I would write these people had no criminal history, because that felt like it was included in every story. About 10 stories in, I stopped. There are only a couple of cases with any "criminal history" that were only inclded because the human rights violation was significant and not equivalent to the "crime" (traffic citation, speeding, etc.- none included with sex crimes, assault, etc. ).
- I try to just summarize articles with facts, but I occasionally make judgments– go through these stories and it will form how you think as well.
Scale & Egregious Nature
I want to emphasize the scale and point people’s attention to the egregious nature of these detainments, arrests, and deportations. I link the stories I can find to verified non-AI cases.
A Systemic Failure
This is a system failure. These human rights violations are a nod to a broken system, not the exception as some might claim. This is not a partisan issue, I would hope people have not lost their compassion. I do not know when protecting children and the innocent in previously condemned buildings and structures without oversight became permissible (And yes, I mean innocent. We are a country of innocent until proven guilty, but the system has decided to re-qualify humans that crossed the border as guilty until proven innocent-- This is a injustice)

- There is nuance to each of these stories, I apologize if I miss some of that nuance, please send me links to stories if I have missed some of the important nuance. I am emphasizing scale here.

Call your state representative and demand justice on behalf of these people
Lead the Change for Justice
Send a message to your member of Congress. Get familiar with "Know Your Rights" resources. Give to immigration and refugee organizations. Accompany immigrants to check-ins and film whenever you see ICE or CBP officers.
